How can I ensure that I've found a legitimate Doberman breeder and not a scam?

With the rise in online puppy scams, it's crucial to be vigilant when searching for a reputable Doberman breeder. To ensure you've found a legitimate breeder, consider the following:

- Communication and Transparency: Legitimate breeders will be open to answering your questions, providing information about their breeding program, health testing, and the care they provide to their dogs and puppies. They should also be willing to share documentation and pedigrees. They will not request full payment in advance and will be happy to video-call with you to see the puppies virtually (or have you visit their kennel if local).

- Health Guarantees and Contracts: Responsible breeders prioritize the health and well-being of their puppies. They will offer health guarantees, provide vaccination records, and may require a contract outlining responsibilities for both the breeder and buyer.

- Referrals and Recommendations: Seek referrals from trusted sources, such as local Doberman clubs, veterinarians, or other reputable breeders. They can provide insights into the breeder's reputation and the quality of their Dobermans. At Harvey Homestead, we're happy to provide you with the name of our local veterinarian who would be happy to confirm our legitimacy and health of our dogs.

By taking these precautions and trusting your instincts, you can increase the likelihood of finding a legitimate Doberman breeder and avoid falling victim to scams that unfortunately exist in the puppy breeding world.
